Why do Golf Courses need a Specialist insurance broker?

Using a specialist insurance broker is an appropriate way golf courses can manage their risks. For a full breakdown on why using a broker is essential for golf clubs, see our article: Using a Broker: Start to Finish.

You may regard golf as a safe sport due to it not involving bodily contact as opposed to sports like football and rugby. However, it does have other risks that could cause harm. If bodily harm was to happen to a player or employee, they could make a large claim against your golf club. Without suitable insurance in place, a claim could pose enough financial strain to close a club.

You should also consider protecting yourself from theft and damage. You may think equipment is safe within your golf club, but it is often targeted due to people being aware that equipment and buggies are regularly left unattended. It has even become more common for just the buggy battery to be stolen.

If your assets are damaged or destroyed, we recommend you hold suitable insurance to cover the financial strain that may be caused. This way you will have some support to get back up and running. As a specialist insurance broker, we will also warn you about emerging risks to be aware of, and help to find insurance which is suitable for you and your business.

As well as providing coverage for building and contents insurance, golf club insurance policies can include public liability cover and Personal Accident cover.

As a Club Insure client, you will also receive access to an online library including checklists, and document templates to help you stay up to date with record keeping for health and safety and risk management.

Generally, machinery, vehicles and equipment owned by the golf club are covered with our Machinery and Equipment insurance. This would usually include your golf buggies, however it’s important to review your specific policy to understand your cover. Our team will walk you through the covers that are included in your policy.

You have the option to pay your premium up front, or we also have premium finance packages available. This helps spread the cost of your premiums across your policy term. Your Account Executive can talk you through the options available to your club when incepting your policy.

If you’d like to ask us any questions, our team will be more than happy to help. You can submit an enquiry via our contact form or call us on 0344 488 9204.

FAQs

Golf courses should consider cover for grounds, staff, machinery, the public, members, clubhouses and facilities. Policies to cover this may include Buildings and Contents insurance , Grounds cover, Personal Accident cover, Public Liability insurance and Employers’ Liability insurance. Further covers include Business Interruption protection and Cyber insurance. Club Insure can visit your club to determine and source appropriate cover alongside you.

Generally, if the golf pro shop is located on your premises and connected to the club, it will likely be covered on the golf course insurance. The building of the pro shop will usually be covered by the building and contents insurance, as will the products and clubs in the shop. However it’s important to check your policy to ensure your cover is adequate for everything you need.
